An 8 mm round amethyst held in a full bezel of 14K yellow gold — a wider stone than the pear version of this charm, so the color reads as a solid dot rather than a taper. That matters at chain distance: a round stone shows the same face however the charm turns, where a teardrop has a narrow edge it can present. Amethyst is a quartz, hard enough for everyday wear, and its purple deepens as the light drops rather than washing out. 17.00 mm overall drop, 0.8 grams.

Which length should I choose?

Sixteen inches sits at the base of the neck, eighteen just below the collarbone — the most versatile length — and twenty inches and above sit on the chest. If you intend to layer, choose lengths at least four inches apart so the pieces do not land on top of one another.
