What a piece is made of is where quality begins.
Material is the first thing we look at. Everything else about a piece — how it wears, how it ages, what it is worth — is decided by what it is made of, long before it reaches your hands. Here is what our jewelry is made of, and why.
Gold
Pure gold does not tarnish or corrode. That is not marketing — it is the metal’s chemistry, and it is why gold jewelry lasts. Our gold is 10K, 14K, or 18K, each stamped with its karat mark. The number is the ratio of gold to the harder metals mixed in with it, and that ratio is a genuine trade-off. The Gold Karat Guide sets out which to choose for what.
It Holds Its Color
Unlike silver, gold keeps its color with minimal care. Higher karats hold it best; 10K, with more alloy, can occasionally darken and cleans up with a soft cloth.
Less Alloy, Less To React To
Gold itself is inert, but the metals alloyed with it — nickel especially — are what most skin reactions are actually to. Higher karats contain less alloy, so if you react to costume jewelry, 14K or 18K is the safer direction.
It Takes The Wear
Solid gold can be polished and repaired by a jeweler for as long as you own it. Plated pieces cannot — once the surface wears through, the piece is finished.
925 Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver with 7.5% alloy for strength — pure silver alone is too soft to hold a shape. Every piece is stamped 925. Silver does tarnish — a surface reaction with sulfur in the air — and it comes off with a soft cloth; some of our pieces are rhodium-plated, which slows it considerably and brightens the finish. Stones
Every product page states exactly what its stone is, and if we ever learn a specification is wrong we correct it rather than let it stand. Natural diamonds are certified compliant with the Kimberley Process, the intergovernmental scheme that keeps conflict rough diamonds out of the legitimate trade; that scheme does not cover labor or environmental practice. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically identical to mined ones and are always labeled as lab-grown — never implied to be otherwise; lab-grown solitaires come with an IGI certificate. Where cut, color, clarity and carat weight are graded, they are published on the listing so you can judge the stone yourself.
